The Challenge
The personal wellness and mental health app market is fragmented by design. Users maintain separate apps for meditation, journaling, coaching, and community, and none of them talk to each other. Most platforms are retrofitting AI onto legacy product architectures, which means the AI is a feature, not the foundation.
Nomei set out to build something different: a platform that is AI-native from the ground up, where every feature shares context, every interaction builds a richer user profile, and the AI actually knows who it is talking to over time.
The second challenge was commercial. To reach the segments with the highest willingness to pay, such as schools, employee assistance programs, and insurers, the platform needed enterprise-grade safety standards that could survive procurement scrutiny. That is not a feature most wellness startups have.
Our Approach
SpaceDev owns Nomei’s engineering and product management end-to-end. A team of three developers, one QA engineer, and one PM built and continues to evolve the platform.
The Memory engine was the first major capability shipped. It gives the AI long-term context about each user across every session and feature, while a user-controlled Forget system ensures full data sovereignty. Every coaching conversation, reflection, and audio session feeds into a unified emotional profile that the platform uses to personalize recommendations.
The Safeguarding system was built in parallel, covering nine categories of sensitive content across coaching flows, reflections, and direct messages. It was designed to meet the standards that B2B buyers in education, insurance, and employee wellness require before deploying a personal development tool to their users.
The platform runs on a multi-LLM architecture spanning OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, and OpenRouter, with ElevenLabs powering custom-voice audio generation and Stability AI handling visual content. AWS provides the production infrastructure, and PostgreSQL handles user data, portfolio state, and analytics.
Results
Nomei now has a product that most wellness apps cannot replicate without rebuilding from scratch. The AI remembers users, adapts as relationships develop, and maintains enterprise-grade safety across every surface. The platform is positioned for B2B distribution to organizations that need verifiable safeguarding standards before deploying a wellness tool at scale. A three-tier subscription model priced from real usage data provides a sustainable commercial foundation as the platform grows.
