Centrifuge enables businesses to tokenize invoices, receivables, and credit facilities, which are then financed by on-chain liquidity pools. Investors earn yield from repayment streams tied to real commercial activity, while borrowers access capital without relying solely on traditional banks.
Protocols like Goldfinch and Maple Finance operate in a similar space, facilitating undercollateralized or institutionally structured lending to companies and funds, with risk assessment handled through governance and off-chain due diligence.
Platforms such as RealT tokenize residential rental properties, allowing token holders to receive a share of rental income paid out in stablecoins. Ownership is structured through legal entities that hold the property, while tokens represent economic rights to cash flows.

You don’t have to understand the technicalities of blockchain to appreciate why RWAs matter. Real World Assets introduce sources of return that follow economic rules rather than market sentiment. They let DeFi participate in long-term capital allocation and attract a broader set of participants.
At the same time, they introduce dependencies on custodians, administrators, and legal systems. Accurate reporting and reliable data feeds become central to system integrity.
On top of that, regulators and global watchdogs are paying attention. Authorities such as the International Organization of Securities Commissions have warned that tokenization can create new risks around investor understanding and counterparty exposure.
These realities don’t negate the promise of RWAs, but they underscore why transparency, sound legal structuring, and clear disclosures are essential.

Successful projects that involve RWAs invest in legal design, operational resilience, and conservative governance. Smart contracts define how systems behave, but custody arrangements, reporting processes, and risk controls determine whether they endure and scale.
