About Drata

When Drata was in its earliest days, led by the founding team, SpaceDev joined as a strategic development partner to accelerate feature delivery and strengthen the platform's core capabilities. With the product foundation already in place, our team integrated seamlessly to co-develop key features like the compliance agent and secure audit workflows.

The Challenge

Compliance is the kind of work where the best outcome is invisible: the audit passes, the controls hold, the customer trusts the platform with their most sensitive evidence. Drata needed a partner who could meet that bar while shipping fast enough to keep up with a category they were defining.

Our contributions helped reinforce Drata’s technical architecture and supported its rapid evolution into one of the most trusted compliance automation platforms on the market today.

Our Approach

We embedded with Drata’s engineering org and took ownership of two high-leverage areas: the cross-platform Drata Agent that runs on customer devices, and the Audit Hub that powers external auditor workflows. Both demanded a careful balance of security, reliability, and developer ergonomics, and both became durable parts of the platform.

Results

Four-plus years in, the partnership has spanned multiple platform-defining phases. SpaceDev continues to ship alongside the Drata team, owning components that millions of compliance events flow through every month.

What we delivered

Solutions shipped

  • Drata Agent (macOS, Linux, Windows): SpaceDev rebuilt and improved the cross-platform tool that runs on users' devices and collects critical compliance-related data. Designed to be secure and lightweight, the Agent continuously monitors system information, providing key evidence that feeds Drata's automation engine.

  • Secure Audit Hub Architecture: SpaceDev supported the development of the Audit Hub, a feature that lets external auditors access relevant, permissioned data securely. Granular access control ensures auditors can evaluate compliance without compromising sensitive company information.
